The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested five individuals believed to form part of an organised armed robbery syndicate that has been terrorising communities across parts of the region.

The suspects — Bismark Amponsah, 32, also known as “Dotcom,” a driver; Abdul Razak Ibrahim, 32, alias “Langa”; Michael Annor Baah, 29, alias “Money”; Razak Jibril, 53, alias “Salaala,” a trader; and Nana Yaw Bediako, 46, also a trader — were intercepted on May 9, 2026, as they were allegedly preparing to carry out a fresh round of attacks.

Two of the suspects are ex-convicts with prior robbery convictions. Jibril served a 25-year prison sentence and was released in 2023, while Bediako completed a 15-year term and regained his freedom in 2024.

Police believe the group is responsible for a string of recent robberies in and around Kasoa, Millennium City, and Agona Swedru. Their arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance operations by the Police Intelligence Department of the Central East Regional Command.

Searches carried out at Kasoa and Agona Swedru yielded a pump-action gun with 54 BB cartridges, a loaded foreign pistol with 38 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a taser with three magazines, and additional offensive weapons.

The five suspects were brought before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on Tuesday, May 12, and remanded into police custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 27, 2026.

Central East Regional Police Commander DCOP Peter Nchor revealed that investigators are also pursuing a sixth individual, described as unidentified, who is suspected of directing the syndicate’s operations from within Ankaful Prison.

He called on the public to continue supporting law enforcement with credible intelligence to aid efforts to rid the region of criminal networks.
