A Ghanaian woman who recently returned to the country on a repatriation flight from South Africa has reportedly been remanded into custody together with her infant child following her arrest at the Kotoka International Airport.

The case was brought to public attention by private legal practitioner and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who disclosed that his law firm, Merton & Everett LLP, is representing the woman.

According to Barker-Vormawor, the woman became the subject of a bench warrant while she was living in South Africa. The warrant is said to have stemmed from a financial dispute that allegedly occurred before she left Ghana.

He explained that the matter was reported to the police during her absence, resulting in legal proceedings and the issuance of a bench warrant without her knowledge.

In a  post on X formerly Twitter, the lawyer stated that the woman was intercepted by immigration officials upon her arrival in Ghana and subsequently handed over to law enforcement authorities.

She was later arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court, where an application for bail was filed on her behalf.

However, the court reportedly declined the bail request, leaving both the woman and her infant child in custody pending further legal proceedings.

The development has sparked concerns about the welfare of the child and the circumstances surrounding the mother’s detention following her repatriation.

While Barker-Vormawor has publicly questioned the situation, details regarding the specific allegations, the amount involved in the dispute, and the charges before the court have not yet been disclosed.

The case is expected to attract significant public interest as further details emerge from the ongoing legal process.
