Richmond Lamptey excited to represent Black Stars in AFCON 2023

Asante Kotoko midfielder, Richmond Lamptey, expresses his joy and honor after being named in the final 27-man squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 26-year-old central midfielder is one of the three local players selected by Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.
Lamptey considers this achievement as a dream come true and expresses his gratitude to various entities, including Otumfuo, past and present Kotoko management, supporters, and teammates.
“It’s an honour, feels good, and I’m very happy. I would like to thank Otumfuo, past and present management of Kotoko, supporters and my teammates,” Lamptey says.
Reflecting on his journey, Lamptey shares, “Growing up, I dreamt of playing for the Black Stars, and for me to be included in the 27-man squad, it’s an honour and I’m very happy.”
As the Black Stars begin their preparations in Kumasi, Lamptey looks forward to the friendly against Namibia on January 8, 2024, before the team departs for Abidjan.
The Black Stars are placed in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique for the AFCON tournament.
Lamptey’s inclusion is a testament to his dedication and talent in the Ghanaian football scene.
