Tamale Central: NDC closes nominations, prepares for October 30 by-election
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its readiness for the upcoming Tamale Central by-election, scheduled for October 30, following the close of the party’s nomination process.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, August 24, the party’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko-Computer, confirmed that internal processes were proceeding as planned and that preparations were well underway.
“We are prepared for the 30th October by-election in Tamale Central. Indeed, today nominations have been closed for people to pick forms,” he said.
Tanko-Computer noted that the next key milestone will be the submission of completed nomination forms on Thursday, August 28.
“We will now wait on Thursday, 28th August, to see who among them will submit his or her form to formally give meaning to the picking of the form.”
Following submissions, the party will conduct vetting on Saturday, August 31, to evaluate the qualifications and commitment of aspirants in line with both party and national constitutional standards.
“We will then move to the vetting process, which will be on 31st August, to assess their capabilities, competencies, and qualifications, as to whether they are true-blood NDC members, in terms of our party constitution and the national constitution,” he said.
The by-election was triggered by a vacancy in the Tamale Central parliamentary seat, and political analysts expect a competitive race. The NDC, which currently holds the seat, has expressed strong confidence in retaining it.
So far, 12 aspirants are expected to file nominations for the NDC primary. Two individuals have withdrawn from the race, citing personal reasons and the crowded field of candidates.
