Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey could be on the verge of leaving ACF Fiorentina less than a year after joining the Italian side, according to reports in Italy.

Italian outlet TMwRadio says the Serie A club and the 25-year-old are close to terminating his contract by mutual consent following a season heavily disrupted by injury.

Lamptey signed for Fiorentina from Brighton & Hove Albion in June 2025 on a four-year deal reportedly worth six million euros. The move was expected to mark a fresh chapter in the defender’s career after several promising seasons in the English Premier League.

However, his time in Florence has quickly turned into a frustrating spell.

After making only two appearances for Fiorentina, Lamptey suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during his first start for the club, an injury that ruled him out for the majority of the season.

The report claims discussions are now advanced between both parties, with an agreement expected to be finalised in the coming weeks, although neither Lamptey nor Fiorentina has officially commented.

The development also raises fresh concerns over the defender’s international future with Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Lamptey was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and had been hoping to feature again when the tournament is hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico next year.

But with recurring fitness problems and limited playing time, his chances of returning to full form before the competition now appear uncertain.

Despite the setback, Lamptey remains highly regarded for his pace and attacking ability, and an early departure from Fiorentina could offer him an opportunity to revive his career elsewhere once fully recovered.
