There is a lot of rot at National Sports Authority – Parliament’s PAC Vice Chairman

During a recent session of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Samuel Atta Mills, serving as the Vice Chairman, levied severe criticism against the management practices of the National Sports Authority (NSA), characterizing them as deeply flawed.
This scrutiny unfolded on Monday, February 5, during the PAC session, where both NSA Director General Professor Peter Twumasi and Minister for Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif were in attendance.
Atta Mills contributed to the growing chorus of disapproval surrounding the alleged mismanagement within the NSA, emphasizing, “There is a lot of rot over there.”
His remarks were directed at specific instances of financial mishandling, notably citing cases where Vodafone Ghana owed the NSA GHS 18,900.00 and CCMI owed GHS 2,250.00. These outstanding amounts were allegedly written off by a regional head without due authorization.
The revelation of these financial discrepancies has brought heightened scrutiny to the NSA, prompting parliamentary action, including a directive for the arrest of the Northern Regional Director.
This action was prompted by the failure to deposit over GH¢160,000 in internally generated funds.
Further exacerbating concerns, the 2022 Auditor General’s report highlighted additional irregularities within the Northern Regional Management of the Sports Authority.
Specifically, expenditures were flagged for contravening the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019, raising serious questions about accountability and oversight within the organization.
