A heartbreaking incident claimed the life of 20-year-old Afia Darkowaa, popularly known as Cindy, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Bremang-U.G.C in Kumasi, when an unmanned articulated truck crashed into the container shop she was occupying.

Cindy, an apprentice learning the trade of beauty and cosmetology, met her untimely death while temporarily managing her supervisor’s shop.

She was reportedly off-duty but had responded to a call to help cover the shop for a short while — a decision that tragically cost her life.

According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police investigations, the accident occurred when the driver of the articulated truck, which was travelling from Bosuom, Pankrono to Bremang, parked by the roadside to use a nearby washroom.

Critically, he left the engine running and failed to engage the handbrake.

Moments later, the truck rolled downhill, gaining momentum before violently crashing into the container shop and a nearby restaurant. Cindy was inside the shop when the vehicle ploughed through the structure, killing her instantly.

A harrowing video circulating online shows the wreckage of the container, with stunned residents and bystanders gathered in disbelief. The beauty shop, once a small hub of activity, had been reduced to a mangled mess of metal and wood.

The incident has sparked outrage and grief in the Bremang community, with many questioning the negligence that led to such a preventable loss.

Cindy is being remembered as a bright, hardworking young woman with dreams of becoming a professional beautician. Her sudden passing has left her family, friends, and the community deeply shaken.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate and bring the truck driver to account for his role in the tragedy.
