‘We’re on a mission’ – Ghana forward Thomas-Asante ahead of England clash

Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante says Ghana are fully focused on their own ambitions rather than outside expectations as they prepare for a crucial FIFA World Cup Group L encounter against England on Tuesday.
The Coventry City striker insisted that the Black Stars are not distracted by criticism or doubts from outsiders, stressing that the squad is driven by a clear sense of purpose.
“That’s not what we think about. We think about why we’re here. We’re on a mission,” Thomas-Asante told Ghana FA’s official website.
The 26-year-old played a decisive role in Ghana’s opening Group L victory over Panama, providing the stoppage-time assist that sealed a hard-fought 1-0 win.
Thomas-Asante believes that having a defined objective has allowed the team to approach the tournament without feeling burdened by expectations.
“That means there’s no pressure. It’s even less pressure for us,” he said.
Both Ghana and England head into Tuesday’s meeting on three points after winning their opening matches. England began their campaign with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia, while Ghana edged Panama to set up a top-of-the-table showdown.
A win for either side at Boston Stadium would put them in a commanding position to qualify from Group L.
Despite the confidence of Ghanaian supporters, Thomas-Asante said the team has embraced the role of underdogs and is using it as added motivation.
“We know our fans believe, but we know that some people might want to overlook us. We use that to our advantage, preparing properly and believing that we can go and do something.”
Ghana face England at Boston Stadium on Tuesday, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 GMT.
