2026 WAFCONQ: Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren remains optimistic in Egypt clash

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says his squad is energized and ready to face Egypt in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier, as Ghana seeks a return to the continental stage after finishing third in 2024.
The team has pitched camp in Morocco ahead of the first leg on October 23, with the return fixture set for Sunday in Accra.
“It’s great to be back with the girls… we came together as a really strong group,” Bjorkegren told Ghanafa.org.
“You can expect a hard-working team that’s going to do everything we can to win.”
The fixture marks Ghana’s first competitive match since their podium finish at WAFCON 2024 where they won bronze, and Bjorkegren is banking on the team’s fighting spirit and unity to overcome Egypt.
“Even if we’re struggling a little bit in the game, we always come back… that shows we’re fighting for each other.”
The Black Queens will take on The Cleopatras of Egypt in Suez, Egypt on Thursday, October 23 before they make a return to finish the second leg encounter three days after at the Accra Sports Stadium.
With WAFCON 2026 qualification on the line, the Black Queens will be looking to build momentum, defend home turf, and continue their rise under Bjorkegren’s leadership.
