Benjamin Asare positive despite Kirin Cup defeats: “we stand together in victory and defeat”

Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has struck a defiant tone following Ghana’s back-to-back defeats in the November international window, emphasizing unity and belief as the team builds toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana suffered a 2-0 loss to Japan and a 1-0 defeat to South Korea in the Kirin Cup, raising concerns about the team’s form ahead of next summer’s tournament in North America.
Despite the setbacks, Asare — who missed the Japan match but starred against South Korea — took to social media to rally support:
“We stand together in victory and defeat. The support means everything. Thank you Ghana!”

The Hearts of Oak shot-stopper delivered a standout performance in Seoul, including a penalty save that kept Ghana in the contest. His display was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult tour.
Asare’s domestic form has also been impressive. He has conceded only four goals in eight Ghana Premier League matches this season and was recently named Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Player of the Year.
With the 2026 World Cup draw set for December 5 in Washington, DC, Asare’s leadership and consistency could prove vital as the Black Stars prepare for their fifth appearance on the global stage.
