Black Stars defender, Mohammed Salisu set to work under new manager at AS Monaco

Mohammed Salisu is poised for a potential resurgence at AS Monaco following the departure of head coach Adi Hütter, whose exit comes amid inconsistent performances in the early stages of the 2025/26 campaign.

Monaco currently sits fifth in Ligue 1, just three points behind leaders PSG, but Hütter admitted his side had underperformed, prompting the club to part ways with the Austrian tactician after a two-season spell that included a return to the UEFA Champions League.

The managerial change could benefit Black Stars defender Salisu, who has struggled for minutes under Hütter:

  • Ligue 1 appearances: 2
  • Champions League appearances: 1
  •  Considered leaving Monaco during the summer

With Sébastien Pocognoli reportedly closing in on the Monaco job, Salisu will be hoping to re-establish himself as a key figure in the squad.

Salisu is currently with the Black Stars for the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and was on target in Ghana’s 5–0 win over the Central African Republic on Wednesday.

He is expected to feature again in Sunday’s decisive clash against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Ghana needs just one point to secure qualification for North America 2026.
