Five Ghanaian footballers playing in three of Europe’s top leagues endured a disappointing weekend after their clubs were officially relegated at the end of the season.

Among the affected players are Black Stars former captain Andre Ayew, Kamal Sowah and Denis Odoi, whose club NAC Breda dropped out of the Dutch Eredivisie following a difficult campaign.

In Spain, Ghanaian midfielder Kwasi Sibo also suffered relegation with Real Oviedo from La Liga after the club failed to secure survival on the final stretch of the season.

Meanwhile in France, defender Terry Yegbe saw his side FC Metz relegated from Ligue 1 after an unsuccessful battle to remain in the top flight.

The relegations mark a frustrating end to the season for the Ghanaian stars, many of whom played key roles for their respective clubs throughout the campaign.

For experienced figures like Ayew and Odoi, the setback raises fresh questions about their next career moves, while younger talents such as Sibo and Yegbe will now be hoping to bounce back strongly and continue their development despite the disappointment.

The developments also come as Ghana continues to monitor the form of its foreign-based players ahead of upcoming international assignments and the road toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
