Former BoG Governor Dr Issahaku buys half of Guan United football club
Former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Nashiru Issahaku has bought a 50% stake in Tamale-based Guan United football club, with name changed to Tamale City FC.
Guan United is one of the Northern Regional football clubs participating in the National Division One League.
The 50% shares acquisition thus makes Dr Issahaku the President of the team, which has struggled on many occasion to qualify to the Ghana Premier League.
A new board is reported to have also been constituted to manage the affairs of the club management which includes Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, younger brother of former President Mahama, Mr. Jones Abu Alhassan and Abdul Fatawu board secretary to Real Tamale United (RTU) sporting club.
The team has also chosen the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium adopted as its home grounds and Northern Senior High School (NOBISCO) school park as its training field.
According to Dr Issahaku, his vision is to make the club the best in the country with a qualification into the Ghana Premier League being the immediate priority.
The Tamale city FC project, he stated, is aimed at bridging the gap between the North and the South.Dr Issahaku served as BoG Governor from April 2016 to March 2017 when he resigned citing personal reasons.
