Franklin Cudjoe condemns political bias in public sector recruitment

Founding President of IMANI-Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe, has called for an end to entrenched political bias in public sector employment, describing the practice as a “dangerous injustice” that undermines national development and weakens trust in state institutions.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, Mr, Cudjoe criticised the persistent politicisation of recruitment and dismissals in Ghana’s public service. He referenced the recent dismissal and eventual reinstatement of staff at the Bank of Ghana as a troubling example.
“It is a technical thing that we need to stop. I don’t think it helps us. I’m asking myself, when will this stop? I think it will stop when we show the public how recruitment is done in public service,” he said.
Mr. Cudjoe had previously echoed similar sentiments in a Facebook post, condemning the reported dismissals at the central bank and implying they were politically motivated.
His remarks align with growing public concern over claims that job opportunities and terminations in the public sector are often influenced by real or perceived political affiliations.
He urged Ghana’s political leadership to adopt a transparent, inclusive, and merit-based recruitment process that prioritises competence and national interest over partisan loyalty.
