Hearts fans protest after shocking defeat to Basake Holy Stars in Premier League opener

Tensions ran high at the Accra Sports Stadium as Hearts of Oak fans voiced their anger following a 1-0 defeat to newly-promoted Basake Holy Stars in their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League opener on Sunday.
The Phobians suffered a setback early in the match, conceding a goal just two minutes in from Prince Tweneboah.
Despite their efforts, they failed to recover, resulting in a shocking home loss that left supporters fuming at full-time.
The situation quickly escalated during the post-match conference. Upset fans disrupted the proceedings, prompting the police to step in and end the event prematurely for safety reasons.
Head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, who opted not to attend the conference, left his assistant Yaw Amankwah to address the media.
However, Amankwah was forced to leave hastily as irate supporters surrounded the team’s vehicle, demanding answers for the club’s disappointing performance.
Frustrated fans hooted at the players and called for the immediate dismissal of Coach Ouattara, even though it was just the first game of the new season.
Their dissatisfaction reflects broader concerns about the team’s direction after struggles in the previous season.
As Hearts of Oak prepare for their next match against Heart of Lions, the club’s leadership faces mounting pressure to address the unrest among its supporters and restore confidence in the team’s prospects.
