Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has urged Ghanaians to adopt a more realistic outlook on the Black Stars, warning that inflated expectations continue to place unnecessary pressure on the national team.

His comments follow Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, ending the country’s campaign earlier than many supporters had anticipated.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Daara said many fans expected the Black Stars to progress much further in the tournament despite the team still being in a rebuilding phase.

“Let’s stop predicting how far the Black Stars will go before every tournament. We all knew this team wasn’t ready for the stage many predicted at the World Cup. That’s what leaves many Ghanaians heartbroken,” he said.

Daara argued that the team’s performances should be judged based on its current level of development rather than against unrealistic expectations.

According to the Senior CAF Media Officer, the Black Stars displayed commitment and determination throughout the tournament, but the World Cup also exposed areas that require improvement if Ghana is to compete consistently with the world’s elite football nations.

He said the focus should now shift towards strengthening the squad, investing in player development and allowing the team time to mature instead of burdening players with predictions of deep tournament runs before every major competition.

Daara also believes that managing expectations will create a healthier environment for the players, easing external pressure and enabling the Black Stars to develop into a stronger and more competitive side.

With their World Cup campaign now over, Ghana will turn its attention to qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Somalia and The Gambia, with the qualification campaign set to begin in September as Ghana looks to secure a return to continental success.
