Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has been appointed as the new head coach of Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites.

He takes over from Desmond Ofei and will be supported by Johnson Smith (Nations FC deputy coach) and Winfred Dormon (Dreams FC head coach), with Kelvin Agyemang joining the technical setup as the goalkeepers’ trainer.

The experienced tactician returns to national duty with an impressive résumé, having managed several Ghana Premier League clubs, including Eleven Wonders, Legon Cities, Asante Kotoko, and most recently Nsoatreman FC.

During his spell with Kotoko, Konadu guided the Porcupine Warriors to the 2012 Ghana Premier League title and later added the 2019 President’s Cup. On the continental stage, he also led the Black Galaxies to WAFU Championship victories in 2013 and 2017.

Most recently, he carved his name into Nsoatreman’s history by steering the club to its first-ever MTN FA Cup success in the 2023/24 season.

At the international level, Konadu previously served as assistant coach of the Black Stars under Akwasi Appiah and former Chelsea manager Avram Grant.

His latest appointment with the Black Satellites represents another important chapter in his long-standing contribution to Ghanaian football, as he takes charge of nurturing the next generation of talent for the senior national team.
