NPP mourns sudden death of Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi
The Eastern Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially confirmed the passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 7, 2025, the party described his death as sudden and deeply distressing, expressing profound grief over the loss.
“This heartbreaking news has come as a great shock to the Party, the people of Akwatia, and the nation at large,” the statement read.
Affectionately known as the “Akwatia Star Boy,” Mr. Kumi was lauded for his steadfast commitment to the progress of his constituency and his loyalty to the NPP’s values.
The party extended heartfelt condolences to his family, the chiefs and people of Akwatia, and the entire NPP family across the country.
“May the soul of our beloved brother and compatriot rest in perfect peace,” the statement said.
Mr. Kumi was in his first term as a legislator, having won the seat during the 2024 general elections. Details regarding his funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
