Former Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has revealed he chose to step down from his role despite guiding the club to league success, citing unresolved concerns behind the scenes.

Ogum led the Kumasi-based side, nicknamed the Porcupine Warriors to the Ghana Premier League title in the 2021/22 season, marking an impressive debut campaign widely regarded as one of the club’s finest in recent years.

But speaking on the GFA Podcast hosted by Patrick Akoto, the coach said his departure was driven by issues he could not overlook.

“After the season, certain things went on which I wasn’t okay with,” Ogum said. “Humbly and respectfully, I engaged management and told them I wasn’t interested in continuing, even though I had a year left on my contract.”

His comments provide fresh insight into a decision that surprised many at the time, coming at the peak of his success with the club.

Ogum’s exit brought an abrupt end to a tenure that had restored Kotoko’s dominance in Ghanaian football, while also hinting at internal challenges that ultimately shaped his decision.

The coach is currently in charge of Ghana’s national under-17 team, the Black Starlets, as he continues his career beyond the domestic league.
