Ahead of the inauguration of the President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Saturday 7 January, the Ghana Police Service has announced the temporary closure of some roads in the capital.

A statement signed by Police Director of Public Affairs Superintendent Cephas said the closure is to enable the free flow of traffic for invited dignitaries who will be witnessing the swearing in ceremony of Nana Akufo-Addo at the Black Star Square.

The roads to be closed are the Castle Road, Lokko Street at Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Starlets 91 Road from the Ministries Traffic Light and the Castle Road from AU Circle.

The police have also earmarked the following areas as parking lots for the ceremony: the forecourt of State House, the International Conference Centre, Intercontinental Bank car park, Accra Sports Stadium car park, the Ministries area, Afua Sutherland Children’s Park, the National Theatre, and the Accra Hearts of Oak car park.

The statement further indicated that only vehicles with assigned stickers would be allowed to pass through police checkpoints.

The roads will, however, be opened to traffic after the swearing in ceremony.
