Four people, including three students and a taxi driver, have died following a fatal road crash at Natwibuw on the Winneba-Apam highway in the Central Region.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Monday, as the students reportedly from Uncle Rich and St. Paul basic schools were returning home from school in a taxi.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash happened when a Toyota RAV4 with registration number GN 5507-18 attempted a wrongful overtaking and collided head-on with the taxi, registered CR 748-20.

The taxi driver died at the scene, with emergency responders struggling to retrieve his body from the wreckage.

One student also died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, bringing the total number of deaths to four.

Two other students who were injured in the crash are currently receiving treatment.

Police are investigating the incident, which has sparked renewed concern over reckless driving on the highway.
