The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has urged former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe Attionu to remain strong and view her prison sentence as a difficult phase of life rather than the end of her journey, following her extradition from the United States to Ghana.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, June 11, Vanderpuye said the former MASLOC boss should take responsibility for her situation and focus on rebuilding her life while serving her 10-year sentence.

“She has come and I wish her well… She should get up and make her life,” he said, adding that many people have experienced setbacks and later rebuilt meaningful lives.

He encouraged her not to lose hope, stressing that imprisonment should not define her future prospects.

Vanderpuye referenced several historical and global figures who overcame imprisonment or major adversity to later assume leadership roles, using them as examples of resilience.

“There’s a whole president of a country who has almost about 140 something convictions against him… Joseph came from prison to become a prime minister. Jerry Rawlings… Nelson Mandela. Kwame Nkrumah,” he noted.

His remarks come shortly after Sedina Attionu was extradited from the United States to begin serving a 10-year sentence imposed by the Accra High Court.

She was convicted in 2024 in absentia for offences including stealing and causing financial loss to the state, with the court finding that her actions during her tenure at MASLOC between 2013 and 2016 resulted in losses of nearly GH¢90 million.

Sedina Attionu was initially granted permission in 2021 to travel to the United States for medical treatment but failed to return to Ghana for trial proceedings, leading to her conviction in absentia.

Following her conviction, Ghanaian authorities pursued extradition in 2025, and the request was later approved by a US District Court in Nevada, clearing the way for her return to Ghana to serve her sentence.
