2026 FIFAWCQ: GFA confirms budget allocation for Black Stars doubleheader

By Stephen Boye October 2, 2025

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed the government’s approval of a $1.2 million budget to support the Black Stars’ final two fixtures in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month.

Sports Minister Kofi Adams, speaking on September 29, revealed that the allocation will cover:

  • $733,000 for the away tie vs Central African Republic in Morocco on October 8
  • $387,000 for the home clash vs Comoros in Accra on October 12

 GFA Explains Budget Dynamics

Henry Asante Twum, GFA Communications Director, clarified that the Association’s estimates were grounded in historical data and logistical realities:

“The budget we sent to the Sports Ministry are the actuals… based on experience, research, and historical antecedents.”

He emphasized that venue changes significantly affect costs — citing differences in travel, accommodation, feeding, and training logistics between previous fixtures in Chad and the upcoming match in Morocco.

“We don’t have any reservations. The Sports Ministry has come up with the actuals, and we have to move forward from there.”
