The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and progress of the Black Queens, pledging continued collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to address player concerns and ensure success in upcoming fixtures.

This follows a two-day training boycott by the Queens over unpaid bonuses from their third-place finish at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, with each player owed $9,500.

Resolution and Return to Training

The standoff prompted a Monday morning intervention by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, who met with the team at their Erata Hotel base. By evening, all 24 players returned to training at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the session ending on a joyful note — players, officials, and Okraku dancing together in a show of unity.

The GFA also dismissed reports suggesting that Sports Minister Kofi Adams had downplayed the players’ concerns, emphasizing that both institutions remain aligned in promoting women’s football and ensuring the Queens receive the recognition and resources they deserve.

The Black Queens will be completing the two-legged qualifier against Egypt on Tuesday, October 28 with a 3-0 aggregate advantage as they won by such margin in the first leg in Egypt.

A win or draw will secure Ghana’s place at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The GFA has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team, celebrating their resilience and backing their push for continental glory.
