Annoh-Dompreh slams Minority Group for opposing EC’s work
Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Majority Chief Whip, has expressed displeasure with the Minority caucus’ stance against the Electoral Commission’s plans to use the Ghana Card as the only document for voter registration.
In an interview with Oman FM, he noted that the Minority group’s determination to oppose the EC is only propaganda.
He claimed that his NDC colleagues have ill motives about the EC’s operations and intended to confuse the nation. He believes their aim has no merit or foundation.
According to him, the EC is taking this action in order to add new names to the electoral roll. He also said that the Minority’s claim that the new CI will cause Ghanaians to lose their right to vote is completely untrue.
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh noted that contrary to what the NDC claimed, the EC aims to remove foreign names from the electoral system.
He claimed that because the NDC has no compelling message for Ghanaians, they are afraid of losing the 2024 elections.
He said that the Ghana Card will become the only valid form of identification for voter registration following the ratification of the Constitutional Instrument (CI), which would enhance the voter verification process.
He claimed that the NDC is resenting the EC because, if the CI is approved, they won’t be able to register foreigners to vote in future elections.
The NDC’s claims, he continued, are unsupported by any evidence. He further urged the media to support Ghanaians’ registration efforts because it is the world’s best practice.
