GFA awards 3-0 victory to Holy Stars after abandoned match against Nations FC
The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has ruled in favor of Basake Holy Stars FC, awarding them a 3-0 victory after their penultimate Ghana Premier League match against Nations FC was abandoned under controversial circumstances.
The decision, signed by Committee Chairman Osei Kwadwo Adow, Esq., found Nations FC culpable for the events that led to the suspension of the game. As a result, Nations FC’s protest against the match abandonment was dismissed outright.
Under Article 33(1)(b) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, Nations FC has been officially recorded as having forfeited the fixture, with Holy Stars gaining three vital points that could impact their final league position.
Additional sanctions were imposed on Nations FC, including a three-point deduction from their overall league tally in accordance with Article 33(5)(a). The club has also been fined GHC 2,500, with half of the amount payable to Holy Stars FC and the other half to the GFA, as stipulated in Article 33(5)(b).
The GFA Prosecutor has been instructed to investigate further, based on match officials’ reports, to identify those responsible for the disruption.
The ruling serves as a reminder of the consequences of match interference, with the committee stressing that any appeal must be submitted to the GFA Appeals Committee within 24 hours of notification.
