Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has publicly recognized the association’s role in the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

During the GFA’s Meet the Press event, Abbey expressed the organization’s commitment to orchestrating a resurgence for the national team following their early exit from the tournament.

The Black Stars’ failure to secure a single victory at AFCON sparked widespread criticism and prompted calls for structural reforms within the organization.

Abbey highlighted that all stakeholders, including coaching staff, players, and the GFA itself, have accepted responsibility for the team’s underwhelming performance.

He stated, “Every stakeholder, including the coaching staff, players, and the FA, has acknowledged their roles in this outcome. The FA has taken responsibility and committed to preventing similar occurrences in the future.”

As part of their efforts to initiate a fresh start, the GFA has disbanded the technical team and initiated a search for a new head coach for the senior national team.

This move signifies the association’s determination to address underlying issues and chart a path toward future success.
