Ghana Kick Boxing Association To Select National Team
Nii Adotey Gyata I aka Joseph Mingle, President of the Ghana Kick Boxing Association has disclosed that very soon the national team, the Terminators will be invited to camp and to compete in upcoming international tournaments.
Speaking to yours truly in an exclusive interview, he noted that there are a number of international invitations and events that Ghana must represent, but due to lack of sponsorship, they have not been able to call and organize the team.
He expressed that very soon an individual championship will be held in Accra and every good kick boxer in Ghana is invited as the best kick boxers who excel are going to form the nucleus of the national team.
According to Nii Gyata, a former kick boxer, the Association is faced with financial problems and appealed to corporate Ghana to support their activities.
“We have to attend a Referees Seminar in April next year in Greece to be abreast with modern scoring and new technics and tactics in the sport. Most of the time Ghana is not present and it makes us lack many things in the sport” he said.
He stressed that Ghana has very good fighters, but they lack exposure. He named kick boxers like Kojo Stevano in Switzerland, Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai in Germany and Alhassan Okine who is based in the UAE as some of the nation’s finest kick boxers who have won international titles, yet they have not been exposed much or even recognized with awards.
Nii Adotey Gyata 1 said the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and other sports journalists must not follow or promote only football, but a little publicity can inspire and motivate many kick boxers.
Two pending international events that Ghana wants to participate are the European Invitational and the World Championship in Greece.
