Brighton and Ghana defender,Tariq Lamptey has suffered another injury setback just after his return from a lengthy lay-off.

The versatile player was making his comeback from injury in the match between Brighton and Nottingham Forest but had to be replaced by Joao Pedro just after the hour mark due to discomfort.

Lamptey, who missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros, will undergo scans to assess the extent of the new injury.

With the Africa Cup of Nations just 49 days away, the news is concerning for both the player and the Ghana national team.

The 23-year-old’s persistent injury problems have been a significant challenge for both Ghana and his club, Brighton. Lamptey’s absence will be a blow for the Black Stars as they prepare for the upcoming AFCON.

In the Brighton vs. Nottingham Forest match, Brighton took a first-half lead with goals from Evan Ferguson and Joao Pedro, cancelling out Anthony Elanga’s early strike for Nottingham Forest.

Lamptey’s replacement Joao Pedro converted from the spot to make it 3-1 before Morgan Gibbs White made it 3-2 for the host.
