Ghanaian midfielder Kingsley Sarfo believes his decision to choose to play for the land of his birth Ghana over Sweden contributed to his imprisonment in 2018.

Sweden were hot on the heels of the talented Sarfo whiles he used to play for Swedish side Malmo FF but the player snubbed the Swedes.

Soon after his decision to play for Ghana he was charges for raping a Ghanaian child in Sweden and was processed for court.

He was incarcerated for 32 months on two charges of Child rape, was deported and banned from entering Sweden for ten years.

The then 23 year old was accused of having sex with an under aged Ghanaian child in his apartment and also in a public toilet.

Sarfo was also fined 150,000 kronor ($17,260) as compensation to his victim but was released 22 months into his sentence for good behaviour.

The midfielder who has vehemently denied the accusation says that his decision to turn down Sweden for Ghana resulted in his incarceration

“During the court session my decision not to play for Sweden was brought up and I was asked whether I was going to play for Ghana or Sweden. I told the court I made the decision to play for Ghana and that didn’t appear to sit well with them,” he told Pure FM’s Bright Kankam Boadu on Tuesday.

“I sincerely believe it was part of the reason that they unfairly and unjustly threw me into prison. I had made my choice and decision to represent my country.”

The Ghanaian midfielder now plays for Cypriot side Olympiakos Nicosia joining in September 2020 on a three year deal.
