Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew has described the year 2023 as a good one for him, acknowledging both the ups and downs in his football journey.

Despite the challenges, Ayew had a significant impact for both club and country, contributing to Crystal Palace’s successful Premier League campaign and helping the Black Stars secure qualification for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Speaking after Crystal Palace’s 3-1 victory against Brentford, where Ayew played a key role, the 30-year-old reflected on the year, emphasizing the team’s improvement and the dedication of the coaching and medical staff.

“It’s been a good year – ups and downs,” Ayew stated. “I guess it’s normal because we have a young group, and this type of thing happens, but we are improving, and we have a good staff behind us, who are doing a good job.

“We were unlucky the last four games. Apart from the City game where it was a good performance and we got a draw, I think the rest of the games we could have won… today we were rewarded. We were the better team.

“When you keep on working and keep on pushing, you get rewarded, so I want to congratulate the boys, the team, the squad, the staff, and the medical team for this year as well because they’ve been brilliant,” he added.

Jordan Ayew, who scored twice and provided five assists this season, was named cinch Player of the Month for August.

He signed a contract extension until 2025 with Crystal Palace and will now feature for the Black Stars at the AFCON, bringing his total caps to 92.
