Kurt Okraku pays tribute to former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi’s mentorship

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has expressed deep appreciation to former FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi for his unwavering support and guidance, describing him as a trusted mentor during challenging times.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Okraku acknowledged the scrutiny he’s faced since taking office in 2019, particularly following Ghana’s back-to-back group-stage exits at AFCON 2021 and 2023, and the historic failure to qualify for AFCON 2025 — the first such miss in over two decades.
“Anytime I am faced with a challenge, I call him… and I am always grateful to him for attending to me,” Okraku said.
“He did his best for the country.”
Despite the turbulence, Okraku’s tenure has seen the Black Stars bounce back, securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The Black Stars will discover their group-stage opponents on December 5, as Ghana prepares for its fifth World Cup appearance and seeks to restore continental and global pride.
Okraku’s tribute to Nyantakyi reflects a rare moment of continuity and humility in football leadership, underscoring the importance of mentorship, legacy, and collective wisdom in shaping Ghana’s football future.
