The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been urged by a former Energy Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, to put an end to their haughtiness and reflect on why Alan Kyerematen left the party.

According to Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s announcement, he is leaving the NPP in order to found his own political movement and compete for president in the 2024 general elections as independent candidate.

Boakye Agyarko, who was aspiring to be the NPP flagbearer, called Alan Kyerematen’s departure a “unfortunate” and added that the NPP fraternity should see this development a warning to the party.

In a statement sighted by Ghanaguardian.com, he said that since 1951, when a major candidate leaves the party, the NPP’s election fortunes suffer.

Mr. Boakye Agyarko made the point that many NPP members agree with Alan Kyerematen’s viewpoints and are merely holding out for an opportunity to punish the party in the polls.

“At least, my brother Kyerematen has put his thoughts and feelings on paper for all to appreciate. How about the many who habour similar and maybe more petulant sentiments in their hearts but are not openly addressing same.

“There are many in our party today who have, out of dismay, resigned in their hearts and are only waiting to walk away from us at the ballot box,” he said.

Mr. Agyarko has urgently advised the party leadership to uphold the UP tradition by reconciling all hurt feelings and bringing in members from all corners of the party.
