You need your head properly screwed- Asiedu Nketia to Hamid
The Information Minister Mustapha Hamid has been criticised by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Asiedu Nketia for saying it that does not make sense that Parliament should be recalled for the ratification of the defence cooperation deal of 1998 and 2015.
The Information Minister in an interview had stated that the defect in the 1998 and 2015 US military agreement with Ghana was to be ratified by Parliament to enable the country operate operate under these current arrangements.
He said, “Government intends to cure that defect by taking the 1998 and 2015 agreements to Parliament for Parliament to give us ratification so that we will continue to operate under these current arrangements that we have until we have completed the processes for triggering the 2018 arrangements” adding that the ratification of the two deals will “ensure that the legal framework guiding the collaboration of the US and Ghanaian armies, as it works to implement the controversial 2018 defence cooperation”.
Replying to the comments, Asiedu Nketia said, “I don’t think anybody who is suggesting that has his head properly screwed on”, adding that the one making that statement should have his head examined.
He further Mustapha Hamid does not deserve to be paid with taxpayers money.
He further said that if Mustapha Hamid and Dominic Nitiwul, who is the defence Minister are among the 110 Ministers under the Akufo Addo administration, then Ghana is doomed.
The defence cooperation deal was approved by the Parliament of Ghana after the Minority side of the House had staged a walk out from the floor of the House, allowing the Majority to pass the deal.
The deal which was passed by the House on March 23 2018 will allow the US force to gain access to the soil of Ghana.
The deal is to help strengthen the Military force of Ghana to counter terrorist acts.
The deal will also allow the US establish a military base and any imported goods that will arrive from the US will not be inspected ans well as not subjected to taxation.
Ghanaians have reacted to the deal with many calling for the government to pull out.
The Minority opposed have opposed the deal strongly saying sovereignty of the country is more expensive than $20 million, an amount the country will benefit from US as part of the agreement.
