President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government has secured 2,500 transformers for installation nationwide, following Cabinet approval and financial backing from the Ministry of Finance.

According to him, the first phase of the rollout is expected to significantly improve power stability, with a broader plan to gradually replace ageing transformers across the country.

Speaking during an inspection at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company yard in Tamale, President Mahama addressed concerns about recent power interruptions. He clarified that outages linked to the installation process should not be described as “dumsor,” explaining that the temporary disruptions are necessary to ensure a more stable and reliable electricity supply.

He assured residents that advance notice will be given ahead of any planned power shutdowns to facilitate the installation works.

President Mahama also commended the increasing local production of transformers, noting that it contributes to economic growth and offers additional benefits to the country. He expressed confidence that Ghana could eventually achieve full domestic production of transformers.

He further emphasised the importance of sustained investment in power infrastructure to meet rising demand, particularly as communities continue to expand across the country.
