Asante Kotoko Probe bribery allegations before final GPL Match

Ghanaian football giants Asante Kotoko have launched a formal investigation into allegations of an attempted bribery involving members of the club’s playing squad ahead of their final Ghana Premier League game of the season against Swedru All Blacks.
The alleged incident is said to have occurred in the lead-up to Sunday’s fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, where Kotoko later suffered a 2-1 defeat.
Reports circulating before the match suggested that an individual had attempted to influence some players ahead of the encounter. The matter was reportedly brought to the attention of the club’s leadership by defender Patrick Asidu, who is said to have alerted management through the appropriate channels.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the club confirmed that its Board and Management had met with players and members of the technical team on Monday to discuss concerns surrounding the team’s disappointing performances during the 2025/26 season.
The meeting also focused on the bribery allegations that emerged shortly before the final league fixture.
Kotoko said a full-scale investigation has now been initiated to establish the facts and identify anyone connected to the alleged attempt.
The club praised Asidu for his conduct, describing his actions as professional and responsible at a sensitive moment for the team.
“Asante Kotoko treats issues of this nature with the utmost seriousness,” the statement said, adding that any person found culpable would face disciplinary action.
The Kumasi-based side further stressed its commitment to integrity, accountability and professionalism as it looks to rebuild after a difficult campaign marked by inconsistent performances and growing pressure from supporters.
The controversy comes at a challenging time for the club, with the defeat to Swedru All Blacks compounding frustrations at the end of an underwhelming season.
