Kuala Lumpur: The Football Association of Thailand (FA Thailand) has been awarded the AFC Grassroots Charter Bronze membership for its continuous efforts in raising the standard of the grassroots in the region.

The Grassroots Charter is a development tool for Member Associations to raise the quality of their grassroots programmes.

It identifies 20 performance categories, such as grassroots competitions, fairplay, partnerships and personal development, which have all been met by FA Thailand.

FA Thailand has outlined a comprehensive framework for its grassroots development programmes through the Ekkono Method which focuses on basic principles such as preparation of games, building of perception, football concepts of space making and utilisation, passing intelligently and effectively and supporting teammates.

The seamless integration has benefitted FA Thailand through its well-organised leagues and tournaments which also involves clubs, teams, coaches, leaders and teachers promoting grassroots football.

With the objective of increasing the current pool of players in five years, FA Thailand has mooted a comprehensive calendar of grassroots activities ranging from U-8 to U-12 Leagues, U-13 to U-19 leagues, Women’s leagues and events, AFC Grassroots Football Day and Women’s Football Day events and social programmes.

Among the planned initiatives for 2019 are the players programmes which includes coaching clinics, Beginners Day, Grassroots Awards and Women’s Projects.

To retain interest in the game, the federation is working in finding the best tool to register all the football participants in a database. The key to realising the objectives are through coach education, endorsements by ambassadors, grassroots partners, the MA, AFC and facilities that are already promoting age-group football.

Furthermore, FA Thailand takes Fair Play seriously and will execute the campaign in all grassroots competition with the goal of promoting good behavior among coaches, players and parents.
