Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh Rejects Election Result, Wants Fresh Poll

By Farida December 10, 2016

Gambian president Yahya Jammeh announces on state TV his rejection of last week’s election outcome, in which he lost to opposition leader Adama Barrow.

Speaking in the Gambia’s capital city of Banjul on Friday, Jammeh called for a fresh round of voting, despite perviously conceding to Barrow.

The 51 year old leader who has been in power sine 1996 says he ‘faithfully’ accepted the results because he thought the elections was fair.

According to him, his investigations reveal that the Electoral Body was unfair therefore he wants a fresh poll with a ‘God fearing’ and independent electoral commission.
