GPL: League leaders Asante Kotoko host tough Medeama

By Yaw Opoku Amoako January 22, 2022

Leaders Asante Kotoko returns home to play Medeama SC on Match Day 14 of the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Sunday. The Porcupine Warriors are flying high in the League and would aim to continue their unbeaten run against the mauves and yellows – having gone six matches without defeat in the League.

Asante Kotoko have won their last four matches since the 1-1 draw against Real Tamale United at home – their longest winning run in the League – a run that has taken them to the summit of the log with 27 points – one game fewer than all but arch rivals Hearts of Oak.

Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum led his charges to the dreaded Golden City Park to pick a point against Berekum Chelsea in a goalless draw with goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim putting up a spectacular performance on the day including a penalty save.

Strikers Thierry Mbella Etouga, George Mfegue have hit top form in the League and would prove crucial for them on Saturday. Coach Prosper Ogum’s side have not lost at home since the 3-2 loss to King Faisal – coming off two wins and one draw in matches against Real Tamale United (1-1), WAFA (1-0), and AshantiGold SC (3-1).

Medeama SC registered their first away win of the season on December 12 – when they inflicted a 1-0 win over Real Tamale United at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale. The Tarkwa lads again beat AshantiGold SC by the same goal margin on Match Day 11 at the Len Clay stadium on Monday, January 3.

With their strong home record in the League, Asante Kotoko will start the day as the overwhelming favourites but Medeama SC have the quality to pull a surprise on Sunday.

The match is scheduled for 3pm kick off at the Baba Yara stadium on Sunday and will be live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247.
