Madam Essiam ordered to step down as CEO of GCMCL
Madam Frances Essiam, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited (GCMCL), has been suspended after the Board of the company held a meeting earlier today at the Robin Hood Hotel on the Spintex road.
Madam Essiam has not had a smooth administration since assuming the office as the CEO last year due to various disagreement she has had with the members of the Board.
Speaking to Accra based radio station Starr FM on Monday May 7 2018, she had claims that she had disbursed an amount of GHC 5 million that was sought for the company by the government and added that she was considering seeking legal action against the Chairman of the Board.
She had stated on air on Monday that, “For all the things that he [board chairman] said, I will take the appropriate means administratively, legally to seek redress and repair my image. The law will take its course…and trust me the law will take its course because I am talking as a woman whose reputation is being wounded,”
Essiam Tuesday had ordered the company to be locked up over reports the board intended to hold a meeting at the premises. She, however, denies the allegations of financial malpractices.
Vitus Azeem, an anti-corruption campaigner has urged the appointing committee of the company to step in and maintain order following the suspension of Madam Essiam.
He said, “President Akufo-Addo or the Minister who oversees the company may have to come in very soon to resolve the matter. Obviously, there is friction between the CEO and the Board Chair. The CEO is answerable to the Board and so the Board has the power to ask the CEO to do what is right”.
