The Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon, Emmanuel Agyarko has mocked at the comments of the public who have a problem with the renaming of the Flagstaff House to Jubilee House.
The the building which was put up by former President Agyekum Kuffuor for the commemoration of the Ghana at 50 anniversary in 2007. The building was named by ex President Kuffuor as Golden Jubilee House but was changed by late President Mills after he had resumed office after the 2008 general elections to Flagstaff House.
President Akufo Addo renamed the building to Jubilee House on March 29 2018, a decision which has been described as a diversion of the attention of Ghanaians from the US military base agreement between Ghana and United States.
In a statement signed by the President, he indicated saying, “Flagstaff House is a separate property located on the premises of the Jubilee House… whereas there is no record evidencing the renaming of the seat of the Presidency as Flagstaff House by His Excellency Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the 3rd President of the 4th Republic, in purported exercise of his executive authority”.
The MP said, “Shame, shame, shame to anybody who thinks it should be Flagstaff house.” He further stated that the Flagstaff House was a colonial relic and should not be adopted any longer.
“I am saying without equivocation that nobody births a baby and gives him a name and somebody comes to change it. If anybody thinks they want another name, they should build another one. Nothing stops us from having two presidential palaces. It is Jubilee House and I think it should be remain so”. Mr Agyarko added.
