U/E: Railways Minister tours Paga, briefs Traditional authorities
The Minister for Railways, Joe Ghartey has extended visits to the Paga in the Upper East Region over the steps the government is taking to solve issues of railways transportation in some parts of the country.
Mr Ghartey spoke to the Traditional Authorities of Paga and discussed the initiatives of extensions of rail lines from Paga to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.
He further sought for the support of the Chiefs in the work as consultants are to move to the region for the work to begin.
He met with Pe Awampaga of Paga and Pe Asagepare II who are the leaders of the Traditional area.
They expressed their excitement on behalf of themselves as well as their subjects to the government.
Mr Ghartey whe speaking said the project is the Kumasi-Paga route and the Eastern Corridor route. Consultants are already at work and hopefully engineering processes are expected to be completed in eight months’ time.
Sixteen companies expressed interest, with 12 shortlisted for further consideration.
The minister was accompanied by his deputy – Andy Appiah Kubi – a consultant and some staff of the ministry.
