A solemn vigil held at Christ the King Parish in Accra on Thursday, August 14, was filled with tears and heartfelt memories as the children of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, paid a deeply emotional tribute to their father, describing him as “irreplaceable.”

Through trembling voices and tearful expressions, they spoke of a man whose love, wisdom, and unwavering presence shaped their lives.

“Your love was steady, your love was gentle, and it was the warmth that filled our home,” they said.

They recalled how, even amid demanding national duties, their father never missed a moment that mattered.

“You called us every day when you travelled. You never missed our special moments. You taught us to dream big but stay grounded. You showed us that compassion is strength, but speaking the truth is an obligation, and that service to others is the greatest legacy one can leave,” they shared.

Struggling to contain their grief, they questioned the painful loss: “Daddy, why did you leave us so soon? Never in a million years did we imagine this. Who will we call in the middle of the night when we need answers? You are irreplaceable, Edwardo.”

Dr. Omane Boamah was one of eight people who lost their lives in the military helicopter crash on August 6 in the Adansi Akrofuom District. The tragedy also claimed the lives of Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed.

Also among the deceased were Air Force personnel Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

A state funeral for the victims is scheduled for Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square in Accra. Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed were laid to rest earlier in accordance with Islamic rites.
