“A new dawn for journalism”– Domfeh pledges change in Ashanti GJA
The Ashanti Regional Chairperson-elect of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Kofi Adu Domfeh, has pledged to lead a transformative agenda within his first six months in office.
Following his decisive victory in a rerun election, Mr. Domfeh is calling on journalists in the region to unite behind a renewed vision for professionalism and progress in the media space.
Domfeh secured 20 out of 31 valid votes cast in the tightly contested poll held on Friday, August 22. His opponent, Georgina Ama Ankomah, received 11 votes. All ballots were valid, with none rejected.
The rerun was ordered by the GJA Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) after the original June 30, 2025, elections were nullified due to procedural irregularities. These included breaches of the GJA constitution and voter eligibility concerns ,notably, a journalist registered in the Greater Accra Region casting a vote in Ashanti.
Addressing journalists after his win, Domfeh described the outcome as the beginning of a new era for journalism in the region.
“A lot is expected of me and my team and I am standing here declaring that we will never disappoint our colleague journalists and people who look up to qualitative journalism and media practice here in the Ashanti region and the country.”
“We will not relent in our efforts to change the dynamics and fortunes of Ashanti GJA and I stand here in the capacity as the chair elect on behalf of my members to say that in the next six months transformation will be experienced in Ashanti region in terms of our profession and that is a commitment I am upholding and promising all members.”
