Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a planned shutdown of the Weija Water Treatment Plant on Friday, December 19, 2025, to carry out critical maintenance works aimed at improving water supply services.
In a statement issued by the company’s Communications Department, GWL said the plant will be shut down from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to allow for essential technical upgrades as part of efforts to maintain the reliability and integrity of its water infrastructure.
The temporary shutdown is expected to affect water supply in several parts of the Greater Accra Region, including Accra Central, Dansoman, Mallam, Weija, Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Abeka Lapaz, Tesano, Kokomlemle, Alajo, Nima, Maamobi, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe and surrounding communities.
Management has assured customers that adequate logistics and personnel have been deployed to ensure the maintenance works are completed within the scheduled period, with technical teams working to restore full operations promptly.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been advised to store enough water ahead of the shutdown to reduce the impact of the temporary disruption.
The Managing Director of GWL, Adam Mutawakilu, described the exercise as essential to sustaining the company’s infrastructure and enhancing service delivery, assuring the public that all necessary resources have been mobilised to complete the work on time.
GWL apologised for any inconvenience the shutdown may cause and appealed for public cooperation as it undertakes the maintenance to ensure long-term water supply reliability.
