Journalists must do their homework well-NDC Vice Chairman

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the style journalists put up questions are appalling.

He said this following the meeting between the Press and President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, claiming that the questions the President had the journalists asking were not thought-provoking enough.

According to the Vice Chairman of the biggest opposition party, the journalists were having just one opportunity to ask a single questions in a whole year and it still was not up to expectations.

While speaking to a Kumasi based radio station Abusua FM, he indicated “I believe that when journalists are given the opportunity in a whole year to prepare and ask the president just one question, I expect the journalists in this country to do their homework very well to ask very thought-provoking questions”.

After the meeting between the President and the Press on Wednesday, there has been criticisms from both the journalists and political analysts, who have argued about the claims of equal representation with the questions from the media houses across the country.

Following the opinion of Professor Gyampo, a University of Ghana law lecturer, who claimed that the market women would have done better if given the opportunity to meet the President than what the Press did, Mr Ampofo said the statement was “below the belt”.

The Professor had further said “I think that the journalist should have asked thought-provoking questions”, while claiming that some of the questions from the media houses were “substandarad”.

Mr Ampofo however said that the President should been pinned with questions like the Gitmo 2 and homosexuality to specify his perceptions on such issues.

He further stated that although Kwesi Pratt, the Managing Editor had asked a question on the Gitmo 2, the President was not pinned enough with such a question.

“Are we accepting them or taking them away. He was just beating about the bush. He is the president of the Republic of Ghana. He is vested with all power, and his decisions are final”. He specified while stating clearly that the decision of whether the Gitmo 2 will stay or leave solely depends on the President.
