Media must play their part in fighting corruption- Pastor Ransford Obeng

Rev. Ransford Obeng the Senior Pastor of the Calvary Charismatic Church has urged the media to desist from acts that will soil their image to facilitate them with the chance to report national issues on corruption, bribery and fraud, crumbling the efforts that enhance development.

The Reverend made the statement to the press at a conference while briefing them on a three-day Spiritual Empowerment programme at the CCC at Ayigya in Kumasi, which commences from Friday January 19 to Sunday, January 21, 2018.

Rev Dr Mensah Otabil  of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) is expected to address the conference.

Rev. Obeng further urged the Press to play a pivotal roll in the current issues of corruption in eliminating the “cancer” destroying the country’s image.

He further said that the media should be mindful of what their reportage and be of truth, objectiveness and impartiality and to avoid reporting information that could be detrimental to the stability and peace the country enjoys.

“Corruption has eaten deep into our society and the society is now being built on lies. A successful society is built on truth but in Ghana lying and stealing is what is building the society and this is the biggest problem in the country.

“Pastors and members steal from the church, public sector workers are stealing from government and the same thing is happening in the private sector”, he added.

Moreover, he added that both the private and public sectors should join the fight against corruption to enable the country promote the socio-economic development agenda of the government.

Again, he touched on the issue of the Fulani menace in some aspects of the country,urging the security agencies to grant enough safety for residents in such areas of the state, claiming that the Fulani herdsmen should repatriate to their original settlement zones.

“He is a man of wisdom who walks the talks with the establishment of the first private university and this has paved the way for the setting up of more private universities in the country to promote easy access to tertiary education”, he stated while commending Dr Otabil for the commencing with the establishment of private universities in the country.

He further expressed his optimism that Pastor Mensah Otabil’s yearly visit to CCC would assist in transforming the lives of the Christian community in Kumasi, tap from the wisdom he is endowed with and further bring them closer to the Lord.
