U/W: Gov’t kick start warehouse construction to prevent post-harvest losses
The government of Ghana under the Akufo Addo administration is bringing measures to prevent post-harvest losses in the Upper West Region by constructing a warehouse under the One district One warehouse initiative.
The 1000-metric tonne capacity warehouse began in August 2018 according to Mr Ansuar-Deen Nanjo, the Project Supervisor for Sambix Construction Limited and is expected to be completed in February this year.
The warehouse is expected to come with a security post, waiting area where people would stay until their goods are cleared, storeroom, office, laboratory and a fence wall.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan who visited the site where the project is taking place has expressed satisfaction with regards to the progress of work so far.
He further called on the contractors to try their possible best to meet the deadline for the project.
Wa East District is one of the ‘food baskets’ of the region.
He said the completion of the facility would significantly reduce post-harvest damages – stop food produced from going waste.
“We produce enough but the next headache now is how to store it,” he added.
The project, alongside other interventions, is geared towards attaining the government’s policy objective of developing Ghana beyond aid.
He called for all to help made the vision a dream come true.
